Hi! It’s your host and friend, Julia. When I’m not writing about music or interviewing musicians, I’m in the studio creating. Today I would like to share a clip of a recent beat I composed using my production software Ableton Live 9, an array of software synthesizers and effects modules, my beat machine controller Maschine by Native Instruments, my Novation LaunchKey midi keyboard, and my baby blue Fender Stratocaster which I’ve been playing since I was 11. Here is a photo of me working in my home studio, and the original sketch of the custom standing desk I built for it. (I ended up bringing the front two legs in about 15 inches each, and I connected the back two legs with a giant support beam):
In the following beat clip, I used vocal samples from two songs: “Only Man” and “What Ya Gonna Do“, both off Jamaican dancehall artist Buju Banton’s fourth album ‘Til Shiloh, (released in 1995 on Loose Cannon Records). I will soon be releasing the full song, among many others, including an international distribution through Sony Music Group of my single “Feel This Over” coming in January. Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy!
